Catalyst is a web-based data collection and reporting tool that automates the creation and tracking of smoking intervention activities for state agencies. Using Catalyst, smoking interventionists can compare their custom designed intervention activities with the outcome of a planned event, enabling staff to reach susceptible population groups with maximum effectiveness. Catalyst includes pre- and post- intervention testing, thus addressing the needs of at-risk populations and further supporting the goal of smoking cessation.

Originally designed for Washington State's successful tobacco prevention program, Target's business rules are designed to meet the needs of other successful state programs such as Massachusetts, Florida and California.

System Highlights
	Advanced Tools Designed around a sophisticated database architecture, Catalyst enables interventionists to dynamically design and customize intervention plans, data collection forms, activities and reports allowing for the easy inclusion or deletion of specific process objectives. The data entry maintenance function updates the database only once per record verses once per line entry. This method is more secure and reliable than conventional approaches to data entry via the Internet, allowing for a more complete transaction that lessens mistakes in data entry. The Catalyst system also features an enhanced navigation bar with data validation feedback, making it easier to find and navigate to potentially incomplete data.
	Flexible Reporting Catalyst offers a predetermined and ad-hoc report system that provides an immediate method of transforming raw data into meaningful information that can be used to demonstrate the effectiveness of prevention program planning, education, and intervention services. Target reports are designed to provide maximum flexibility and ease of use for both the end user and the web master. We included a complex set of queries to maximize the flexibility of the data, enabling each report to filter for numerous data categories.
	System Security The Catalyst system possesses a very high degree of security and provides secure access for various users, such as service providers, regional administrators and state headquarters personnel.
